I hope you guys on this side of the pond are enjoying food and fireworks... toss in a couple of 'ooh's' and 'ah's' for me since I'm sitting at work.
Also, while I'm here, I was asked to repost a pic from the walk-on... since I had a little spare time from watching over a cranky platesetter, I reloaded the whole album over here.

Since LJ's code stupidly reveals screened comments if I reply to them, I thought I'd do the replying here...

And this one here is kind of tempting, but I don't know if I want to deal with being military again, even if its of the weekend warrior variety.

Well, almost. It's about the halfway mark for the year and considering that I'm the queen of late, I should probably get started on Christmas/Yule/Winter Solstice/"Excuse to eat, drink, be merry and get presents" cards now. So, to that end, if you'd like a card from me, let me know. Comments are screened so that if I don't already have your address, you can leave it when you post.

We've moved on to leaps in dance class this week. If my knees didn't hate me before, they're certainly going to declare mutiny now. But OMG! This is just the best! I don't have the same distance I used to have, but oh this was my favorite part of color/winterguard performances. So now I'm not just a dancing hippo, I'm a jumping one too! :D

The Hewlett got married. They are so absolutely and ridiculously adorable! And they look so incredibly happy together - it's good to know that tru wuv might actually exist in the world. I wish them all the best.

I think I need a vacation. My dreams lately have been peppered with derivatives, speech prep, dance moves and newspaper plate machine repairs.
I think a couple of hours biking around Stanley Park would do me a hell of a lot of good right about now.

I'm ashamed that I did not know about the Mercury 13 and only found out about them today. According to an entry on io9, Janet Dietrich died on June 5th. She was one of 13 women who endured the same testing as the first NASA astronauts but they were not allowed to participate in the program.

Okay, I need to practice this dance combination we're being taught, but I need music. I'll comb through my own collection of stuff, but for those musically inclined, do y'all happen to know any pieces off the beaten path in 3/4 time?
And speaking of dance... I didn't have to worry about my kneecaps falling off. No, they're held in place by the swelling of the bruises. I had forgotten just how much falling to and rolling around on the ground was involved in modern dance. Still, it is fun, even more so when I get it right. I just wish I didn't feel so much like the dancing hippo amongst the gazelles.

It has to be an omen. I dreamed that I was at P4... except it wasn't quite in London any more and that I was having so much fun hanging out that I missed my flight home. Of course it didn't help that most of the streets were flooded and I was apparently staying so far away from airport that I wouldn't have been able to get there in time to check in anyway.

Man with Transformers t-shirt detained briefly at Heathrow
Apparently apparel with cartoon robots with cartoon guns might upset fellow travelers enough that the security people required this guy to change shirts before being allowed access to the boarding areas of Terminal 5. Un-fucking-believable.

I dreamed that N John Smith offered me a position at Bridge as a Director's Assistant. He even gave me a note to give to the guard at the gates so I could get onto the studio lot. Of course, my luck being what it is (even in dreams), something came up and I didn't get to go.

class day 1:
* I did not actually blow out my kneecaps though it felt like a close thing at times
* I am not so out of shape that I couldn't keep up
* I will lose at least a couple of dress sizes before this is all over
* I am going to be incredibly sore and stiff, if not tonight then definitely tomorrow morning
* The teacher is my neighbor from across the street.
It was so cool to go through the floor exercises and movements today even if it took me a while to catch on to them. I am a bit worried about my knees when it comes to deep plies and lunges.. but hopefully given enough time they won't be such a problem. Also, I think I will start going to the gym on the days between classes and focus on upper body since it'll be mostly leg work with the dance stuff. Who knows, by the time I finish in August, maybe I'll look more like I did after Army Basic... that would be totally kick ass.
Now if you'll excuse me, I should probably go take some aspirin and stretch a bit more before my legs completely lock up.

So, anyone want a Gatepass ticket to the Vancouver Gatecon, seat #405? Unless something happens in the next month to bring down flight and hotel costs, I will have to sell it off because I can't afford to go. Which also means I won't be going to P4 either.... which sucks because I really like that con. Though given the rash of CC theft that may or may not be due to Wolf, maybe it's better that I hadn't bought tickets for P4 yet.
On the school front, my summer physics class did indeed get cancelled, leaving me 5 credit hours to fill so as not to waste my financial aid monies. So, I picked up a 3 hour Calculus 3 with Analytical Geometry class that starts at 8 o'friggin am on Tuesdays and Thursdays.... and a 2 credit Beginner's Modern Dance class from 2 to 4 MWF. Which means I probably should start going to the gym and get in better shape so I can keep up. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

... and the teacher doesn't show up. I'm going to be really upset if I get to my 8am physics lecture tomorrow morning and find that the lecturer for that class has skipped out as well.
Then again, since there's only 5 of us (out of the 7 that are registered) that showed up for physics class today, we run the risk of having it cancelled if the instructors don't want to teach such a small group.
Yay. :/
